Science Fact of the week
By Alexandre Marie
Mendel’s law
Gregor Mendel was an Austrian monk who was interested in Science. He was mainly interested in the science of inheritance and genetics.
He worked on the such science by setting up a Pea garden. He used the garden to study genetics.
By careful study of the garden. He worked out a theory of Mendel’s law!
The idea is that what influences our physical looks are genes called Alleles and it is inherited at birth.
There is different sort of alleles.Heterozygous alleles are when a person is born with two different alleles for his gene.An homozygous alleles is when a person as the same alleles for the same genes.
There is three laws in Mendel’s laws. The law of Segregation, Dominance and Independant Assorment.
The law of Segregation is the idea that during a formation of a gamete (sperm and ovule mixing together). The alleles from each genes are segregated from each other. So that for each one gametes . They carry only one
The law of Dominance is the theory that some alleles are dominant and some are recessive. If someone has a dominant alleles, they will show the sign of the dominant one
The law of Independant Assorment is the theory that some alleles separate each other independately during the formation of a gamete.
Mendelian inheritance has effect on, Blood type, type of ear wax,the ability of digest Lactose.
