Outdoor Skills Cook-Off
By James Burrows
On Thursday the 18thof October, our Outdoor Skills Group did a ‘Cook-Off’, where we all had to cook a meal from scratch using a fire and ingredients brought in from home. This seemed pretty daunting at first, but after lots of planning we were ready for the challenge.
Lots of different types of dishes were made on the day. Some made pasta, some cooked rashers and sausages, some made smores and some even made some Vegan curry. The group I was with cooked lots of pasta with tomato sauce as well as some beef. We intended to make some smores over the fire, but somebody stole our marshmallows! Instead all we were left with were some grilled Digestive biscuits! A whole sliced pan was also taken from another group, and nobody was able to find out who were the robbers.
Overall, I think that everyone enjoyed themselves, and had great craic. We also got to eat some nice food as well, and who could complain about that?!
